ACAT (Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture) was founded to defend the dignity of every human being and to fight against torture, the death penalty, and inhumane treatment wherever they occur. From its beginnings, ACAT has supported both Israeli and Palestinian people who are victims of violence, injustice, and the denial of human rights.

  • We are for human rights.

  • We are against Cancel Culture.

  • We are against antisemitism.

  • We are against racism.

  • And we refuse to remain silent.

Why ACAT supports the people of Palestine

The reality in Israel and Palestine is defined by historical territorial uncertainty and profound instability, thereby entrenching enduring cycles of mistrust, recurring violence, and persistent humanitarian suffering.

We stand with all people, regardless of religion, nationality, or place of residence, reaffirming our commitment to universal human rights.

ACAT also supports the people of Israel

Our solidarity is not one-sided. ACAT has always supported the people of Israel as well, particularly those who defend peace, justice, and human rights within Israeli society. We recognize the suffering caused by terrorism and violence against Israeli civilians, and we affirm Israel’s right to live in security.

Our position

We reject all forms of antisemitism, and we reject any attempt to delegitimize Israel’s existence. At the same time, we denounce policies and practices - from any side - that violate human rights and international law.

Our mission is not to take sides, but to defend the victims of violence and oppression, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or religion.

Our call

• Respect and apply international law and human rights conventions.

• End practices of torture, arbitrary detention, and collective punishment.

• Work towards a just and peaceful solution that guarantees security and dignity for both peoples.

Because silence in the face of injustice is never an option.
